Meet Dr. Vital

Dr. Karla Vital is a board-certified medical doctor specializing in the fields of health and wellness with an emphasis on disease prevention, medically supervised nutrition plans, and metabolic testing. Her private practice, Vital Health & Wellness Center, serving the Greater Houston, TX area, is dedicated to providing outstanding medical care to area patients, helping them achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles and overall well-being. After moving to Texas in 2005, she became a faculty member at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where she spent a great deal of time providing counsel to patients about the impact of dietary intake on their health. In 2009, she began practicing nephrology in the private sector and took notice of the need of patients for comprehensive wellness and weight loss guidance. By combining her passion for teaching with her professional expertise, she took up the practice of bariatric medicine and is pleased to be currently serving as the medical director of Vital Health & Wellness Center. The proud mother of three children, Dr. Vital enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle alongside her husband by engaging in activities, such as dancing, cycling, and cooking. She is also an engaged member of the community as she takes part in a number of organizations that work to treat obesity and increase public awareness of diet-related concerns.

Education and Training

While attending the Xavier University of Louisiana, Dr. Vital earn her Bachelor of Science in biology and was recognized as a summa cum laude graduate. Building off of this success, she then attended the University of Florida College of Medicine and was awarded her medical degree in 1999. Next, she completed an internal medicine residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center before taking part in nephrology fellowship training at Tulane University School of Medicine. Despite her years of experience and extensive training, Dr. Vital continues to expand her knowledge and awareness of emerging medical trends to provide the highest level of care to her patients.

Skills and Specialties

With board certification in bariatric medicine and nephrology, Dr. Vital focuses on the practice of internal health and wellness methods intended to address the impact of obesity and the complicated medical problems that may result from it. With experience in developing detailed nutritional plans, as well as knowledge of behavioral sciences, Dr. Vital cares deeply about the overall health and wellness of her patients. She also specializes in providing guidance to individuals who may need gastric surgery, or who need personalized guidance following weight loss surgery. She continues to pursue new medical breakthroughs that may benefit her patients and the general public.
